From Our Family to Yours.

La vida es en la calle, or “life is in the streets”. Antonio Canchola and his sister, Araceli Canchola, grew up on the vibrant streets of Mexico City, working at their father , Luis’  food cart. It was at their father’s cart that Antonio and Araceli learned the flavors and techniques of traditional Mexican cuisine. Years later, the Canchola siblings moved to Detroit with a dream of sharing their culture and traditions with Detroiters and visitors alike.

In 2018, Antonio and Araceli opened up El Caporal Taqueria Y Restaurante, serving up the same recipes from their father’s food cart, many decades later, including their famous rotisserie chicken. Together, the sibling created a family friendly restaurant and an authentic Mexican experience.

El Caporal hand makes everything from their tortillas to their tres leches, infusing home-made ingredients and generations of passion.
